ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation & camping facilities

  • Limited 5x5 m2 accommodation stands are available to participants at Fort Mission to pitch their own tents or camp trailers on a fcfs basis for Friday & Saturday night.

  • Check-in is on Friday afternoon from 12h00 onwards once a participant has registered, and check-out is before Sunday at noon.
  • No meals would be available for participants at Fort Mission tented village. Braai fires and grids would be available at Fort Mission tented village to do your own braai on Friday evening from 17h00 onwards, as well as pap & sous (provided by Recce Mission field kitchen).

Recce Mission Tented Camp

  • Fort Mission tented village on the ESA sport terrain will be a secured area. It has communal ablutions - Men & Ladies have separate toilets, but share unisex shower units.
  • Most crew will stay at the Fort Mission tented village in shared 3x3 m2 military canvas tents or 2x2 m2 rip stop nylon tents.

A ‘Crash-and-Dash’ military style canvas tent would be available to finishers at the Fort Mission tented village on a fcfs basis on Saturday. No bedding would be provided but a limited number of mattresses would be available.

Recce Mission Cycle & Trail Run Shirts

  • Recce Mission cycle shirts and Recce Mission trail running shirts are available to entrants to the Recce events.
  • Pre-orders and on-line payments can be made when entering for a Recce event.
  • Both shirts will be available for sale at Registration and at the Closing Ceremony. Limited stock is available, and post event orders can be placed at SASFA.

AMMO CRATES

Recce branded clothing: Other Recce apparel available for purchase at Registration and at the Closing Ceremony include the following:

  • Recce Oilskin and Recce Allegiance Peaks
  • Recce leather ‘Stetson’ hats and belts
  • Recce shirts and pants
  • Recce cups, mugs and classes.

Ammo crates are used to store participant gear, equipment and other essential race items. These ammo crates would be available to participants at selected TBs along the various Recce Mission routes.

  • Ammo crates are handed out during Registration at Fort Mission in Dullstroom to Recce Mission and Recce Rouleurs participants only

  • Ammo crates need to be handed in at Registration before the specified cut-off time on D-Day as the vehicles transporting these will leave Fort Mission before the start of each event

  • No ammo crates will be available to participants at late registration on D-Day or D-Day minus 1

  • Ammo crates will be available at the Registration area on D-Day plus 1 from 08h00 for collecting gear and stuff left in the ammo crates

  • Ammo crates will be numbered with the race number

Ammo crates would be available at the following TBs:

  • MTB Mission event: Each rider will receive one ammo crate that can be collected and deposited at Fort Mission TB.

  • Trail Mission event: Each runner will receive one ammo crate at registration for packing gear that can be collected and deposited at Fort Kloof TB.

  • Recce Rouleurs event:  Each rider will receive two ammo crates at registration for packing gear that can be collected and deposited at Fort Hoop TB and Fort Mission TB.

NOTE: Liability on personal crates

Recce Race organisers will not manage the logistics of personal crates. The Recce Race organisation will not take any responsibility for the content in personal crates and will not transport these crates back to Fort Mission in Dullstroom.

Personal ammo crates

  • Participants can make use of their own crates by dropping these off at Fort Mission TB prior to the start of the event 
  • These crates must be clearly marked with the participant/s' Race Number
  • Personal crates must be collected from Fort Mission before 09h00 on Sunday morning

LOGISTICAL SUPPORT

NOTE: Route markings only on the Civvy and  Light Duty routes

Participants must follow the route instructions for the Rouleurs, Mission and Jammie events as these routes are unmarked and must be self-navigated. The turn-offs for the Civvy and Light Duty events are marked and these riders and trail runners must always follow the marked routes.

Riders and trail runners must be self-sufficient between TBs and CPs as no support other than medical evacuation will be provided between these points.

Transport to and from Highland Gate: The Trail Light Duty event will start at Highland Gate Golf & Troute Estate. Participants will be transported to the start of that event by the local taxi minibus organisation. Safe parking is also available within the Estate for the duration of the Trail Light Duty event should runners prefer to leave their vehicles at Highland Gate and collect these after the event.

Temporary Bases: The TBs will serve as resupply zones where participants can get hydration and nutrition support. Spectators and supporters will have access to selected TBs.

Check Points: Check points will be manned and some might also serve as basic waterpoints. Participants must check into these points as specified in each event's race instructions to complete the entire route.

Observation Posts: Observation Posts (OPs) might be unmanned or used by Recce Race personnel to 'recce' the access routes or targets. Recce Mission and Recce Rouleurs participants will be responsible to check themselves in at all scheduled OPs to complete the entire route..

Medical support: Medical support is provided along the routes, including event emergency 4x4 and other vehicles equipped with satellite phones. During day-time a chopper might also be available and used for emergency evacuations.

Medics would also be placed along the routes at strategic points to facilitate the rapid deployment to a casualty scene. However, Recce Races supply lines are approximately 700 km with limited or no GSM coverage in mostly hostile terrain that is inaccessible for normal vehicles. It might take time for medics to perform a casevac.

Mechanical Support: Tiffies will be available on D-Day for last minute emergency repairs. They will also provide mechanical support at For Mission TB in Dullstroom.

MTB riders should however ensure that they have most critical spares and repair kits with them, also providing basic chain lube, tubeless plugs and chain links for emergencies free of charge. Tyres, tubeless sealant, chains and other components will be available at 3rd party service provider’ fees, payable on the spot.

Accommodation stands must be booked and paid for as part of the Recce Race entry fee. Once all stands have been booked-out this option will not be available to participants anymore.
